Edwin Chiloba Murder Trial Closed

The defense in the highly publicized murder case of LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich, known as Chiloba, has concluded it's case, while the prime suspect, 25-year-old Jacktone Odhiambo, a freelance photographer, continues to assert his innocence.

Odhiambo stands accused of killing Chiloba between December 31, 2022, and January 3, 2023, at Noble Breeze Apartment in Chebisaas, Uasin Gishu County.

Chiloba’s gruesome murder was brought to light when his decomposed body was discovered in a metallic box along the Kipkenyo-Kaptinga road, approximately 10 kilometers from Eldoret town.

During the year-long proceedings at the Eldoret High Court, the prosecution presented 22 key witnesses, including government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Among the significant findings, a principal chemist from the government chemist laboratory, Polycarp Kweyu, testified that DNA from the bed cover matched Odhiambo’s seminal fluids.

Additionally, Jane Waya, a government analyst, reported that no toxic substances were found in Chiloba’s remains.

Justice Nyakundi has directed both the prosecution and the victim’s lawyers to submit their final arguments within two weeks. A judgment is scheduled for November 8, 2024.
