KENYA : Emergence of digital media platforms dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, serving as powerful tools to shine a light on the issues, challenges, and achievements of underprivileged communities in far-flung areas that often remain in the shadows of mainstream media, has seen Kenyan stations go back to the Drawing board.
Standard Media Group’s Television Network (KTN) has announced the merger of its two major brands, KTN Home and KTN News, into a unified brand, KTN.
In a statement on Monday, December 2, KTN disclosed that the merger is aimed at giving the audience a comprehensive range of content under one roof.
“Since 1990, KTN has been a beloved part of your lives, growing into a heritage brand cherished by millions. From hard-hitting news to captivating entertainment, we’ve been your trusted companion, amplifying voices and shaping stories that matter.
“Today, we’re excited to announce the merger of KTN Home and KTN News into one unified brand: KTN. This bold move combines the best of both worlds—your favourite family entertainment and trusted, fact-based journalism—all under one roof,” read part of the statement.
The station emphasized that the new KTN will cater to diverse audiences, offering everything from news content to entertainment.
“The new KTN offers something for everyone: in-depth news, investigative stories, local dramas, Hollywood movies, talk shows, sports, youth content, and so much more.
“Wherever you watch—on TV, laptop, or mobile—we promise a rich, captivating experience. With passionate and fearless journalists leading the way, KTN remains committed to putting facts first—because you come first,” KTN stated.
Founded in 1990, KTN was the first privately owned television station to be established in the country. In 2015, it launched KTN News, which provided 24-hour news coverage.
Through this platform, Standard media Group aims to bridge the communication gap between the underprivileged communities and broader society, ensuring their voices are heard, their rights are recognized, and their concerns are addressed.
KTN, believes that by empowering these communities with a digital voice, they can foster greater understanding, drive social change, and inspire collective action to improve their livelihoods and uphold their dignity.
Their mission is to put the power of storytelling in the hands of those who need it most, allowing them to become the authors of their own narratives.
