KENYA : Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs CS Hassan Joho claims his Nomination by President William Ruto as Cabinet Secretary has been a learning exprerience.
Joho stated that each day since he assumed office, he has been able to discover about the existence of a new mineral in the country, which he had no idea prior existed.
" I'm grateful to Serve Kenyans in Capacity as Mining Cs. Since My Appointment for this role, I'm learning a new Mineral Each day", he said.
Joho, made the remarks on Thursday, December 5, 2024, while speaking during the Official opening of the Kilifi County International Investment Conference.
Joho, went ahead to explain why the people of Kenya must positively sell the country on social media, after his recent outburst fuelled backlash on social Media.
Joho had earlier this week called out Kenyans using Social Media Platforms to criticize the government on it's shortcomings, saying this will not be tolerated, 'We are Coming For You' he Warned. The sentiments, led to widespread condemnation from Netizens, who accused the CS of Ignorance.
Explaining his earlier Remarks, Joho Stated, " Nation Building is not an Easy Job and When Those in Government Try to do it, don't ever assume they're doing it for their own benefits. It is for current and future Generations. It is important we learn every Kenyan has a Contribution to Make. Let us Sell Our Country Positively. "
Speaking on the Same Forum, Trade Cs Salim Mvurya, revealed his ministry has approved 2,000 acres of land in Vipingo as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) from CENTUM Investment Company PLC.
According to the Trade Cs, The operationalization of the SEZ from next year, will host over 200 industries in key sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and the blue economy, creating over 10,000 job opportunities for local residents.
Additionally, he revealed he has received an application for the approval of a Special Economic Zone at from Kaya Fungo, Kaloleni Constituency.
The Cs revealed the Ministry is keen on rolling out a County Competitive Index, a tool that will guide investors seeking to establish or expand operations across counties.
He stated this index will ensure that counties like Kilifi are well-positioned to attract, retain, and sustain transformative investments that align with their unique economic advantages.
According to the Cs, the landmark event allligns with BeTA’s key intervention pillars to incentivize investment, increase production, create employment opportunities, and reduce the cost of living geared towards ensuring equitable income distribution, which will uplift the livelihoods of Kilifi’s residents.
Mvurya affirmed the Ministry will continue to provide a conducive environment for investors, inorder to unlock the investment, catalyze local industries and uplift the livelihoods of Kenyans.
