Govt to recruit 5,000 Police Officers next Year - Dp Kindiki

KENYA : Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government will resume recruiting police officers after a break spanning more than two years.

The last recruitment by the National Police Service was conducted in March 2022.

Subsequent recruitment in 2023 was postponed with Kindiki who was serving as the Interior CS at the time revealing that the exercise would be conducted in 2024.

This however failed to happen, with the DP now revealing that the recruitment will happen in March 2025.

Speaking in Turkana County on December 15, 2024, the DP announced that 5000 police officers will be recruited early next year as part of the government’s efforts to bolster security.

The exercise will kick off in March, 2025, with the exact dates and venue to be revealed prior to the exercise.

The DP also revealed that a new Cabinet Secretary for Interior would be announced by President William Ruto soon and his office will work closely with the CS to address security concerns in the area.

"We are praying for a new Interior CS who will soon be announced and we will work with him/her closely to build on the strides we made earlier" he said.

The Deputy President, was speaking when he attended an interdenominational Sunday Worship and Thanksgiving Service at the Moi Gardens, Lodwar, Turkana County.

Addressing the security situation in Turkana County and the neighbouring Counties, the Deputy President noted that the situation has considerably improved in the past two years since the commencement of 'Operation Maliza Uhalifu.'

" We applaud the gallant frontline multi-agency security agencies that have successfully dismantled the criminal enterprise of livestock rustling and banditry, and pacified the North Rift Valley Region, and opening it up for economic transformation and development." Said Kindiki.

" The Government appreciates the political, religious and community leaders for being change agents and acknowledges their invaluable support in building a culture of peace." He added.

According to the Deputy President, security and stability of the Northern Rift Valley Counties and other parts of the Country remain a priority for the Government.
