Renowned comedian turned activist, Eric Omondi has been left heartbroken after learning that the classroom he built for needy students in Kapoo Village Turkana County was demolished by county officials.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Eric said that it was inhuman to demolish the classroom he built for the kids using the funds channelled through the Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative.
The philanthropist, in addition, stated that apart from tearing down the classroom, they also took the uniforms and shoes donated to the kids.
“It is very sad that they demolished the classroom we built for the kids but it’s even worse that watoto walinyanganywa uniform na viatu…Are these people even human?” Eric expressed disappointment.
Lotiir E. Henry, a resident of Turkana and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, has strongly condemned those responsible for demolishing the classroom.
Lotiir pointed fingers at Turkana leaders, accusing them of destroying a classroom that was constructed to benefit the underprivileged children in the region, while they continue to send their own children to the most expensive schools.
“Those Turkana leaders (or misleaders) who destroyed that classroom built by Eric Omondi, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You send your children to the best schools, yet you have no problem demolishing a much-needed classroom for brilliant, but poor children in Turkana. Your justification? Eric Omondi didn’t follow the right protocol.”he wrote.
“You’re failing in every aspect of leadership. If you can’t support the future of our children, then shape up or ship out!” he added further.
Through his community initiative, Team Sisi Kwa Sisi, Omondi had successfully mobilized resources to construct a well-equipped classroom, providing a conducive learning environment for the students.
In a touching gesture of gratitude, Omondi renamed the school after the volunteer teacher, Elizabeth Kamaret, who had dedicated her time and energy to teaching the children despite the harsh conditions.
"TEAM SISI KWA SISI!!! WE HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!! May GOD Himself richly bless anyone and everyone who contributes. We birthed a new school, built a classroom in one day, and provided uniforms, books, and shoes for these little angels. We named the school Teacher Kamaret after the AMAZING, selfless teacher who volunteered herself to teach these children.”
” We managed to give her a stipend to sustain her for at least two months. A lot still needs to be done because more than half of the children still don’t have uniforms, and the classroom is not 100 percent complete. By the end of this year, we will have a complete school here with boarding facilities. GOD BLESS YOU!” he said.
The classroom was demolished just a day after its completion.
