The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has successfully rescued 58 Ethiopian nationals who were being held in a house in Kitengela, Kenya.
In a statement on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, DCI said the operation, which unfolded swiftly after a tip-off from concerned members of the public, resulted in the arrest of two Kenyan suspects.
The agency explained that members of the public had reported suspicious activity, after observing a group of Ethiopian nationals being confined in a maisonette in the area.
After receiving the reports, DCI said officers raided the house, where they found the victims in a state of weakness and malnutrition.
"This follows a tip-off from concerned members of the public, who reported seeing a group of Ethiopians being confined in a maisonette in the said area.
Acting on this intelligence, officers swiftly responded and found the victims who appeared weak, malnourished, and without identification documents in the company of two Kenyan suspects, Daniel Nduati Kingoo and Peter Maina Kimemia in the said house," DCI said.
DCI said preliminary investigations indicate that the 58 individuals had been brought to the house to await transportation to South Africa.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victims had been brought to the house three days earlier and were awaiting transportation to South Africa.
"Out of the rescued individuals, 28 were escorted to Kitengela Police Station, while the remaining 30 were taken to Isinya Police Station. The two Kenyan suspects were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station," DCI added.
The DCI also noted that during the operation, a Honda motorcycle, with the registration number KMGK 123T, was recovered at the scene and is currently being held at Kitengela Police Station as an exhibit.
