The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has formed a historic partnership with Interpol, becoming the first multilateral development bank to establish such a collaboration with the international police organization.
The agreement, formalized through a Letter of Intent signed by AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and Interpol Secretary-General Valdecy Urquiza in Abidjan, will strengthen cooperation between the bank's Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption and Interpol's Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre.
The partnership aims to combat emerging financial crime threats, including cybercrime, corruption, and terrorism financing, with a particular focus on Africa's growing digital economy challenges.
According to Interpol's 2024 Global Financial Fraud Assessment, various online frauds pose increasing threats to Africa's digital economy.
