KENYA : Mumias East Member Of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has sparked political discussions in the country after hinting that he could vie for the presidency in 2027, a move he alleges will be a selfless act to help rescue the Youth.
The outspoken legislator made the announcement during a recent public event in Siaya, expressing his ambition to take on the country’s top leadership role.
Salasya, known for his charisma, claimed that the Kenya-Kwanza administration has failed Kenyans through fake promises, a failing Health Scheme and unresolved unemployment that has subjected youths in the country to endless suffering.
The First time MP, warned that his remarks should not be taken lightly, insisting that he was subjected to ridicule when he declared his interest in the Mumias East Constituency seat, which he eventually won.
" In 2017, they tried to label me a madman for seeking a Parliamentary seat. In 2022, I proved them wrong by winning. Now, as I set my sights on the presidency, they call me delusional. Let it be known that I am capable and Qualified and I will prove them wrong again" said Salasya.
This is not the first time the Vocal Legislator has declared interest in State House.
In an earlier Statement towards the end of last month, the Mp had hinted on seeking presidency saying, "I will vie for Presidency in 2027, if I will not get any Presidential Candidate addressing Manufacturing. We can create jobs in Kenya. We cannot be talking about exporting our youths to Saudi Arabia to work as maids."
Salasya, also recently adviced President William Ruto on the steps to take to quell disquiet within his government.
The Mp, Opined that one of the reasons Ruto’s administration is being subjected to harsh criticism is failing to honour pre-election promises.
According to Salasya, the Second reason the Kenya-Kwanza administration is facing the wrath of Citizenry is failing to act on major issues affecting the common Mwananchi.
Additionally, the Vocal Legislator slammed Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) maintaining that they had failed to articulate issues affecting their dockets, making Ruto stand out as the only government mouthpiece.
Salasya urged the President to embark on service delivery and abandon making other promises that he could not honour, in order To turn around the tide in his favor.
“I want to ask you, the president, to abandon the internet, stop overpromising, and go to work, and these young people will respect you. In Kenya there is freedom, and that freedom must be exercised.” Salasya stated.
Salasya told President Ruto that he could only earn back the trust and respect from the young generation by delivering on his campaign pledges contrary to many leaders who are demanding for the Head of State to be respected, without nothing substantial to show he has earned it.
