The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the country.

According to the 'Weatherman, Eight regions would be affected, including the highlands west and east of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley.

“Most parts of the country will experience predominantly sunny, dry, and hot weather conditions, followed by possible rainfall in several areas, particularly from the weekend onward,” Kenya Met announced in it's update on Friday.

Other areas set to experience rainfall include the Coastal Region, south eastern lowlands, northwest, and parts of the southern coast.

The department also noted the likelihood of isolated storms in some of these areas, particularly over the weekend.

Counties in the highlands east, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall from Saturday through Tuesday.

The advisory further stated that these areas would experience hot and sunny conditions before the rains set in.

Similarly, counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Nandi, are projected to receive heavy rains from Sunday, March 9, to Tuesday, March 12.

Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are also expected to experience similar weather patterns.

However, counties in the North Eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will remain dry and sunny over the weekend.

The meteorological department also warned of high temperatures exceeding 30°C across most parts of the country, except in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, where temperatures are expected to stay below 30°C.
