Nairobi, May 12 : Kenyan Members of Parliament are sounding the alarm over potential tax evasion by betting and gaming companies.
According to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) data presented to the National Assembly, there's a puzzling trend.
While excise duty collected from betting has grown by over Sh2.5 billion compared to last year, the withholding tax from players’ winnings has declined.
MPs suspect that some betting firms may be tampering with bet outcomes—reducing payouts to winners and, by extension, withholding less tax for the government.
