A joint operation by National police officers and National Police Reservists (NPR), successfully led to the arrest of one localman and nabbed bhang worth KSh 10.5 million in Elbor Ward, in Moyale Constituency in Marsabit County.
Confirming the incident on Monday, June 2, Sololo OCPD Joseph Nthiga, told Julisha.co.ke that the bhang was hidden inside a Toyota Land Cruiser on the wee hours of Monday morning.
According to Nthiga, the car had carried 12 sacks, with each sack containing six packs each, a total of 72 bales.
“At around 3.30am in the morning, we received information from NPR in Elbor area that they have nabbed a Toyota Land Cruiser with bhang, together with the driver, the car was driven to Sololo Police station, where we informed officers from scenes of crime, and government chemist to confirm if it is Bhang. The 12 sacks nabbed had six packs each, amounting to 72 bales estimated at KSh 10.5M,” Nthiga said.
He further confirmed that the officers were able to arrest the driver of the car, after he tried sneaking from the scene, but was injured on the leg, during a shootout that was started by his passenger, who managed to escape.
The driver identified as Sarr Guyo, a 27-year-old is currently receiving treatment in Sololo Hospital under heavy security.
“Preliminary reports indicate that NPR tried stopping the vehicle, but the driver sped off, with one passenger on board, who started firing in the air, but one suspect the driver, identified as Sarr Guyo a 27-year-old, who was unfortunately injured in the incident on the left thigh, is currently receiving treatment at Sololo Hospital, under heavy presence of our police, after which he will be presented in court,” Nthiga stated.
He further commended the joint efforts by the security officers including the NPR officers, and called on residents to work together with security officers, by providing relevant information to the officers, to ensure that they wipe out criminal activities in the county.
“I want to thank our NPR officers together with residents that provided the police with information that saw the criminal arrested. I want to urge the residents to continue with the same spirit to ensure that we completely stop the business of drug cartels in Sololo,” said Nthiga.
