A section of influencers and content creators from the Mt Kenya region have been rushed to hospital after allegedly consuming ‘contaminated’ food during an entertainment event held in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The influencers started feeling the symptoms today, Monday, after attending the event on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Reports indicate that the creators began developing persistent stomach pains after attending a music video–launching event hosted by Ngaruiya Junior, an influential and politically connected Kikuyu gospel musician.
The event was held at a hotel in Ruiru, where Ngaruiya unveiled his latest music video titled “Muthamaki Urotuura” (Long Live, the King).
According to attendees, the entry fee was Sh5,000 and included dinner—now believed to be the suspected source of the health crisis. Though the exact cause of the illnesses has not been confirmed, multiple creators who ate at the event reported similar symptoms beginning earlier today.
Among those affected is popular influencer Karangu Muraya, who confirmed being hospitalized with stomach-ache pains. “If you have a friend who attended last night event of Ngaruiya Junior ‘King of Kigooco’, please check on them. I am at the hospital, unwell,” said Karangu through his social media pages, sparking alarm and prompting fellow content creators to check on others who were present at the event.
Several creators hospitalized
Other content creators who confirmed being hospitalized with similar symptoms include online bloggers Castro Media, Chuma Moto TV, Kikuyu Star TV, Nyarari ya Murang’a and Mumbis TV. Some reported that their discomfort began as mild stomach pains in the morning but intensified rapidly, forcing them to seek urgent medical attention at different hospitals within Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
Efforts by Julisha Media to reach Ngaruiya Junior for a response did not materialize, as the musician did not answer calls or respond to text messages sent to his phone. Attempts to contact event organizers and the hotel where the launch was hosted were also unsuccessful by press time.
Ngaruiya Junior has been a prominent political mobilizer in the Mt Kenya region. He actively campaigned for President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) during the 2022 elections, working alongside fellow gospel musician Muigai wa Njoroge. He was also once a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua but later fell out with him after accusing Gachagua of failing to fulfill a promise to secure him a state job.
Currently, Ngaruiya is among musicians popularizing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki across Mt Kenya.
