Kenya Railways has announced a significant recruitment drive, days after the launch of the latest extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). This move signals a scaling up of operations as the state corporation prepares to manage a more expansive network that aims to link Naivasha, Kisumu, and Malaba. The call for job applications is a critical component of the government’s broader strategy to enhance regional logistics, reduce road freight reliance, and boost the efficiency of the country’s transport sector.
The recruitment, which is strictly restricted to Kenyan citizens, is framed as a competitive opportunity designed to attract top-tier talent into the public sector. For the government, this is a strategic imperative; the success of the SGR expansion depends on a highly skilled workforce capable of managing complex logistical systems, maintenance protocols, and international transit standards.
The available roles include managerial positions in rail safety, passenger services, sales and marketing, quality management system and risk coordination manager. Others are signalling, electrical and communication manager, technical audit manager, stores and inventory manager, train operations manager and accounts manager.
Each position has one vacancy, with some roles being re-advertised while others are newly introduced.
Applicants are required to submit a signed application letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates and a valid identification document.
“Candidates should provide all the details requested for in the advertisement. It is an offence to include incorrect information in the application; Only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted; Shortlisted candidates shall be required to produce originals of their National Identity Card, academic and professional certificates during interviews; It is a criminal offence to present fake certificates/documents,” the corporation said.
The applicants must also provide information on their work experience, referees and salary expectations.
Successful candidates will be required to present clearance certificates from relevant government agencies, including those from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
They are also expected to submit clearance forms from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the credit referencing bureau (CRB).
Interested candidates who meet the required qualifications were directed to submit their applications through the job link available on the Kenya Railways website: krc.co.ke.
The Corporation warned that applications made through hard copy submissions will not be accepted, noting that the deadline for applications is April 28, 2026, at 5 pm.
Kenya Railways emphasised its commitment to equal opportunity employment and encouraged applications from women, persons with disabilities, minorities and marginalised groups.
