President William Ruto has directed the reservation of 50 additional teaching slots for Akorino candidates in the upcoming Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recruitment and announced the immediate construction of a Sh120 million college in Ruai, in a dual initiative aimed at boosting employment and expanding education opportunities for the community.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving service at State House, Nairobi, on Sunday, the President said the government was committed to supporting qualified Akorino teachers through increased recruitment opportunities, noting that the additional slots would help expand access to public sector jobs.
Ruto said the move was part of broader efforts to ensure fair representation and to empower communities with skilled professionals in the education sector. He praised Akorino teachers, describing them as competent to excel in the profession.
"Akorino teachers are very sharp, and because of that, I am allocating 50 additional slots today for your children to be employed as teachers," Ruto said.
In addition to the recruitment directive, the Head of State announced the immediate construction of a college for the Akorino community on a six-acre parcel of land in Ruai, valued at Sh120 million. He said construction of the institution will begin next week and is expected to be completed within one year.
"This week, we will begin construction of your college, and next year we shall hold this meeting at the completed college in Ruai," he stated.
He further disclosed that the government had already handed over the title deed and identified the exact location of the project, paving the way for the commencement of works. A contractor will be deployed immediately to begin construction.
To ensure proper implementation and oversight, Ruto said a trustee structure will be established to manage the project. The team will bring together key government officials, including Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala, who will guide the academic framework, and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, who will provide legal oversight where necessary.
