Kenya's President William Ruto has urged citizens to ignore naysayers, staying the country's economy is stable, insisting it was his God-given duty to transform the country.
Speaking on Sunday, January 12, 2025, after a church service at the United Pentecostal Church of Kenya in Dagoretti North, Nairobi, Ruto said he has every intention to fulfill the assignment given to him by God, adding that by making him the leader of Kenya, God gave him an assignment to transform the country.
Ruto, justified the government of national Unity, saying this is the reason he decided to reach out to all leaders, including those in opposition, to work together towards actualising God’s plan.
The President insisted that one person, political party, or region cannot transform the country alone.
“There is a job God has given me to lead this nation and an assignment to transform Kenya, and I have every intention to make sure we transform our nation. It is the reason I am ready to work with all leaders and unite all Kenyans to fulfil God's plan. One man, one party, one region cannot do it but all of us united, we can achieve much together,” Ruto said.
He added that he is a very proud President of the Republic of Kenya and very grateful to God for making it possible.
Ruto further told off critics who have been saying that he will be a one-term president and those saying he should rule for more than two terms.
According to the Head of State, a few years ago, there were those who believed he would never be president, a position he holds now and is grateful to God for.
“Kuna watu wanaongea mambo ya one term, two terms, three terms. Pale nyuma kuna watu walifikiria sitakuwa hata na term. Nimefurahi sana Mungu amenipatia nafasi hii niwe kiongozi wa Kenya. I am a very proud President of the Republic of Kenya.”
The President noted that while many didn’t believe his administration had the capacity to stabilise food prices and the economy, it has come to pass.
“There are enemies of our country who wish us bad, but I want to tell you that Kenya will not fall. Kenya is strong and will develop. We are going to go places, and it is evident God has put our country on recovery.
“Not many believed we would reduce food prices; not many believed we would do affordable housing, but we are doing it,” Ruto said.
He added that citizens must ignore the critics, as they do not have a vision of where the country is headed.
Ruto said the transformation of the country is not about him or whoever will come in as the next leader of the country.
He insisted that it is about the collective well-being of the country and all people.
“We are making steady steps in the transformation of our nation. Forget the naysayers; Kenya is going to march forward steadily. Forget those who don’t see that we have an opportunity to change our country. This is not about anyone; it is not about me or the next leader of Kenya.” he said.
