The Affordable Housing Board has organized open days at Makenji housing project in Murang’a County to allow members of the public visit the site and help them register to acquire the houses once they are completed.
During the four day exercise, the locals will get an opportunity to tour and inspect the affordable house units being constructed in Kandara constituency.
Currently, the construction of the 220 units is at 53 percent completion with the Murang’a County Director of Housing Ms Laureen Wasungu saying the houses are slated to be complete before the end of this year.
Furthermore, Wasungu underscored the open day saying members of the public will be assisted to register in the Boma Yangu portal as they await to occupy their units.
“From today, Tuesday to Friday we will have an activation drive here at Makenji as members of the public will be allowed to visit the site and assess the houses. We have a team which will assist the people to register in the Boma Yangu portal,” said Wasungu.
At the Makenji site located along Thika – Kenol highway, the government is constructing 60, three-bedroom units, 100 two-bedroom houses and 60 studios.
“The affordable houses in the Makenji area are strategically located as they can easily be accessed by people working in Thika, Kenol and Nairobi.
“We urge locals to explore open houses and register for affordable housing units in the near future,” she added.
According to the director, a studio will go for Sh. 960, 000, two bedrooms Sh. 1.92 million and the price for a three bedroom will be Sh. 2.88 million.
Meanwhile Ms Wasungu said construction of 764 affordable housing units at Makuyu has kicked off, whereas the housing project to be funded at a tune of Sh. 1.8 billion will sit on 6.25 acres along Kenol – Marua highway.
“We also started construction of 1,910 affordable houses at Gatanga constituency. We expect these projects to be completed in a period of less than two years,” she added.
