Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been charged with two counts of conspiracy to defeat justice by stage managing his own abduction and violation of the Cybercrime Act by giving false information after addressing the press from Karen Hospital, claiming he had been kidnapped.

Koimburi, who appeared frail and walking with difficulty, was assisted to enter Milimani Law Courts by his two aides shortly after 2 pm, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi.

"I urge this court to free me on bond to enable me to proceed to Karen Hospital for a medical appointment. I am not a flight risk and had failed to attend court because of my indisposition," he told the magistrate.

The prosecution led by state counsel Victor Owiti and Norah Awiti did not oppose his bail.

Ekhubi released the MP on a cash bail of Sh300,000 and ordered him to appear before the investigating officer for fingerprint processing.

Two weeks ago, the MP's co-accused were charged with the same offence.

The four, Grace Nduta Wairimu (Kanyenya-ini ward MCA), Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana and Cyrus Muhia, are accused that on May 25 at Mugutha area in Juja, they conspired to defeat justice by stage managing the abduction of Koimburi.

The prosecution said they committed the offence in order to prevent Koimburis' arrest and arraignment at Kiambu law courts to answer to charges as directed by the DPP in a letter dated May 20, where he was to be charged with four counts in relation to land fraud.

Koimburi and Peter Kiratu also face a charge of giving false information and publication of false information.

Koimburi was accused that on June 7 at Karen Hospital via his YouTube account, he issued a press release to the effect that he had been abducted and tortured by some criminals, information which he knew to be false and which caused panic to the members of the public.

Kiratu is charged that on May 25 at Mugutha police station, he reported to Officer Nelly Kabuu that Koimburi had been abducted by unknown people wearing face masks after attending a church service at the Full Gospel Church at Mugutha.

The said information caused Constable Kabuu to enter the said report in the occurrence book number 21 of May 25, 2025, which he knew to be false.

State prosecutor Victor Owiti did not oppose the release of the accused on bond, saying they had earlier been out on a cash bail of Sh300,000 and cooperated with investigators.

The defense counsel told the magistrate that the accused is willing to comply with any conditions imposed.

The magistrate was told the accused had cooperated with police and exhibited good conduct.

In his ruling, Ekhubi ordered the accused to retain the same bond of Sh300,000 which they were granted in May 2025.

He, however, required them to provide three contact persons.

The court also requires police to finish investigations about the detained vehicles, which the court heard they had chequebooks and title deeds.

The case will be mentioned on August 5 for pre-trial directions.
