At least three people have died in Kisumu following an accident involving boda boda operators and a vehicle belonging to the security detail of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the CS mobilized an emergency medical response to assist the victims.
“Following the accident, immediate rescue efforts were coordinated, leading to the evacuation of more than 19 injured persons to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention,” read the statement posted on the ministry’s social media account.
The ministry said the accident occurred at Otonglo near the Molasses Plant in Kisumu as the CS was heading to Kisumu International Airport after attending a daylong thanksgiving ceremony in Rarieda, Siaya County.
“Unfortunately, two fatalities were confirmed at the scene, while one additional victim succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital,” the statement added.
The ministry said emergency responders, local authorities, and medical teams acted swiftly to assist the victims and ensure the injured received prompt medical care.
The Ministry of Health conveyed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a quick recovery to those receiving treatment.
CS Duale later attended an iftar meeting organized by the Association of Muslim Medical Professionals in Nairobi’s Upper Hill, where he also confirmed the accident.
