Emergency teams have been deployed to Kibera’s Highrise estate after a building collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several people feared trapped beneath the debris.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident, saying response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene and had begun search and rescue operations.
“A building collapse has been reported in the Highrise area of Kibera. Emergency response teams are currently on site conducting search and rescue operations,” the agency said.
It added that the number of those trapped remains unclear, with fears that multiple individuals could still be under the rubble.
The collapse has drawn urgent attention from rescue agencies, with efforts now focused on locating and saving survivors as time becomes critical.
