Manchester United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over FCSB in their last group stage match in the Europa League.
Youngster Kobbie Mainoo was the star of the show, with the Red Devils two second half goals to overcome the hosts, helped them cruise into the next round of the Europa League.
After a tense first half that saw them miss chances to take the lead, Manchester United finally opened the scoring on the hour mark thanks to Diogo Dalot, who found himself in the right place at the right time following a throw-in for the Red Devils.
Manchester United's second came soon after as Mainoo received a cut back from Alejandro Garnacho and drilled home from the edge of the penalty area to give the Red Devils a commanding lead.
The two Manchester United youngsters combined to seal Manchester United's 2-0 win over FCSB despite being on the chopping block transfer-wise after they were declared expendable by the club due to PSR worries.
The win over FCSB puts Manchester United in third position, ensuring safe passage to the Europa League round of 16 as an automatic qualifier, without having to go through an extra round of knockout fixtures.
FCSB were not as fortunate and by virtue of finishing in 11th, will have to go through a second round before potentially reaching the round of 16.
Meanwhile, In a different Fixture, Jose Mourinho's men needed a result in their last game to get a chance of booking a place in the round of 16 through the playoffs.
However, they almost crashed out of the competition after playing a 2-2 draw against Midtjylland.
The home side counted on their early dominance and got the first goal through a header from Ousmane Diao.
However, just before halftime, the visitors equalised from Youssef En Nesyri’s goal to restore parity.
Entering into the second half, Fenerbahce’s striker Edin Dzeko gave Mourinho’s team a surprising lead.
Fenerbahce were heading for a win when the host got the equaliser from Valdemar Byskov inside the box.
The result saw Mourinho’s team narrowly seal a place in the playoffs after finishing 24th on the Europa League table.
