Manchester United Stare at Relegation as Onana Gifts Tottenham Win

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE : Manchester United’s disastrous Premier League campaign reached a new low as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, extending their woeful run of form.

James Maddison’s early strike proved enough to condemn United to yet another loss, pushing them further down the league table and raising serious concerns about their season.

Tottenham capitalised on Manchester United’s defensive frailties early on, with James Maddison scoring in the 13th minute after Andre Onana’s poor parry off a Lucas Bergvall shot.

The English playmaker reacted fastest, slotting home the only goal of the game to condemn Manchester United to yet another Premier League defeat.

Despite having chances through Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho, United once again lacked cutting edge in attack, leaving Ruben Amorim’s side frustrated.

Their struggles in front of goal have been a recurring theme this season, and against a resolute Spurs defence, they never looked like finding an equaliser.

With this latest defeat, United have now lost eight of their last 12 Premier League matches, winning just three in that span.

Their form since December 4th is among the worst in the league, with only the bottom two teams in the Premier League, Leicester City (9 losses) and Southampton (10 losses) faring worse in that period.

This latest defeat marks United’s 12th loss in 25 Premier League games this season, making it their worst start to a league campaign since 1973-74—the last time they were relegated from the top flight.

Sitting in 15th place, United are now just eight points above 19th-placed Leicester City, with 13 matches left in the season. If their current form continues, a relegation battle could quickly become a reality for the struggling side.

In a different fixture, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but their performance was far from convincing.

The Reds were dominant in the first half and raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

However, they were second-best for much of the second half and were fortunate to escape with all three points.

Wolves created a number of chances in the second half and pulled a goal back through Matheus Cunha.

Arne Slot’s men could not register a single shot in the second half, the first time they have failed to do so at Anfield since the 2003-04 season.

Finally, Brighton secured their second victory over Chelsea within a week, defeating the Blues 3-0 in a dominant Premier League clash on Friday.

Just days after knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup, the Seagulls delivered a commanding performance at the Amex Stadium, with Yankuba Minteh emerging as the star of the night.

Minteh, who had only netted three league goals before this match, scored twice, either side of halftime, to lead Brighton to a much-needed win.

The Seagulls opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Kaoru Mitoma brilliantly controlled Bart Verbruggen’s long pass before slotting it past Filip Jorgensen.

Chelsea thought they had equalized through Enzo Fernandez eight minutes later, but the goal was ruled out due to a push on Joel Veltman.

Brighton capitalized on their momentum, doubling their lead seven minutes before the break. Danny Welbeck’s persistence in the box set up Minteh, who finished from close range.

Minteh sealed the win with his second goal just after the hour mark, squeezing the ball past Jorgensen at the near post despite protests for a foul on Levi Colwill. Brighton continued to press, almost adding a fourth as Mitoma’s effort was saved, and Veltman’s strike was deflected onto the post.
