Kipchoge Stadium to be complete in 15 Months

The National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture has conducted an inspection visit of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The team, led by its chair, Webuye West Member of Parliament Dan Wanyama, inspected the facility as part of the committee’s mandate, which includes overseeing expenditures and implementation of sports projects funded by the government.

We are here to inspect the ongoing works at this stadium in preparation for Kenya’s hosting of the August 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” said Wanyama.

He revealed that the entire project would cost approximately Sh3.5 billion, with a down payment of Sh300 million already disbursed to the contractor.

Additionally, Wanyama assured the public that the remaining work must be completed and delivered on time, as construction funds for the stadium have been allocated.

He put the contractor on notice that the completion timeline—15 months—must be adhered to.

The Sports Committee Chair expressed disappointment over delays and the slow pace at which the contractor is progressing with the work.

Sports Kenya Acting Director General Gabriel Komora indicated that the stadium has been selected as one of the venues to host AFCON and CHAN. The current scope of work involves upgrading the stadium to meet Category 3 standards.

The work includes increasing the stadium’s capacity to accommodate about 16,000 fans, improving technical and aesthetic features, installing a canopy and fixed seats, and completing the VIP area with extended skyboxes.

Komora assured that the contractor will be fully on site once the requested 20 percent down payment is made by the Sports Fund. He confirmed that the sports facility will be ready within 15 months.
