Kisumu City is set to welcome thousands of rugby enthusiasts from across the country for the 2025 Dala Sevens, slated for September 13–14 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo.
Organised by Kisumu Rugby Football Club (KRFC) in partnership with the County Government of Kisumu, the tournament will mark the grand finale of this year’s National Sevens Circuit, a role that has historically given the Dala Sevens a unique buzz.
Addressing the media during a courtesy call on Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o, KRFC Secretary General Robert Amolo said the team was determined to deliver an unforgettable spectacle both on and off the pitch.
“Dala Sevens is the biggest tournament in Kenya, and being the final leg, we expect attendance from all corners of the country," he said.
He added that the tournament will kick off with kids’ rugby on Friday at Kisumu Polytechnic , a move aimed at nurturing the next generation of players.
The two-day main competition will feature about 32 teams, with Kisumu RFC carrying the home hopes.
On the entertainment front, fans will be treated to live performances from stars Costa Ojuang and Odongo Swag, while DJs Grauchi, Dimori, and Verse promise to keep the party alive long after the final whistle.
Food, drinks, and a variety of hospitality options will be available from local vendors, giving the tournament its trademark festival vibe.
Prof Nyong’o welcomed the return of the tournament, promising county support in security, logistics, and fan experience.
“Kisumu is all set to host this year’s edition of the popular Dala Sevens, which attracts fans from across Kenya and beyond. Past editions have attracted fans in their thousands, and this year we anticipate close to 10,000 rugby fans and players rallying behind about 32 teams. We remain focused on nurturing talent and growth of our youth," said the governor.
For years, the Dala Sevens has proved to be more than a rugby event growing into a festival where sport meets culture, pulling in thousands of fans.
Past editions have transformed Kisumu into a rugby carnival, with hotels and eateries overflowing with visitors and the stadium packed with passionate supporters waving team colours.
Last year alone, the tournament attracted over 8,000 fans, and this year organisers project close to 10,000 people to throng the stands, creating an atmosphere unmatched anywhere in the circuit.
