YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States are facing another round of price increases, with every tier of the ad-free service set to cost more, marking the latest adjustment in the context of continuously escalating streaming service costs.
Google representatives say the looming adjustment is to maintain service quality, while supporting the creative and artist ecosystem, emphasising,"We want to continue to provide the best experience, including watching without ads, broadcasting in the background and a library of more than 300 million songs".
The YouTube Premium personal package will increase from 13.99 USD to 15.99 USD per month, while the family package increases from 22.99 USD to 26.99 USD per month.
YouTube is quick to note that a Family plan is the best deal on a per-user basis, bringing the cost down to $4.50 per month for each individual member of a family if you have six people on a Family plan.
The YouTube Premium Lite package (a cheap version with an unpromotional viewing experience for most content) has also been adjusted from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
In the music segment, YouTube Music's personal package increases from 10.99 USD to 11.99 USD per month, while the family package increases from 16.99 USD to 18.99 USD per month.
YouTube Premium subscribers have started to receive emails about the price changes, which appear on the YouTube Premium sign-up page. But existing users won’t see a price hike until June. YouTube Premium currently offers a three-month trial for $0 that then costs $16 per month after three months.
This is the first price increase since 2023, when YouTube adjusted the price of YouTube Premium from 11.99 USD to 13.99 USD per month and YouTube Music from 9.99 USD to 10.99 USD.
According to data released in March 2025, YouTube has reached 125 million global subscribers for both Premium and Music services, up from 100 million in the previous year. This shows that the demand for paid services is still increasing, despite higher prices..
The increases arrive in a broader context of streaming services adjusting their pricing upward, with Spotify raising its rates by comparable amounts in February 2026 and Netflix increasing the cost of all its plans last month.
YouTube Premium is changing prices only in the US at the moment, though the service has historically rolled out price adjustments to other regions in the months following a US increase.
