Chelsea have reached an advanced agreement with Atalanta to sign 21-year-old right wing-back Marco Palestra in a deal worth more than €55 million including add-ons and performance-related bonuses, with club-to-club terms now completed pending final paperwork.

The 21-year-old’s rise has been rapid. Developed at Atalanta’s academy, he made his breakthrough during a loan spell at Cagliari, where he showed maturity in one-v-one defending, overlapping runs, and crossing from deep. Back at Atalanta, he became one of Serie A’s most talked-about defensive prospects, drawing interest from multiple top European clubs for his blend of stamina, technique, and composure under pressure.
For Atalanta, the structure of the deal is strong business: a high guaranteed fee plus add-ons tied to appearances, European qualification, and other milestones, alongside a future sell-on. For Chelsea, it fits a clear recruitment pattern of targeting young, high-upside talent to build a core that can grow with the manager.
Palestra’s arrival would be one of the first marquee moves of the Alonso era at Chelsea, signaling intent to reshape the squad around players who can play in the wing-back roles that defined Alonso’s own playing and coaching style. If finalized, he will join pre-season with a view to competing straight away on the right flank.
