Bayern Munich eye Man United's Striker Sesko to replace Harry Kane

Bayern Munich are interested in buying Manchester United's Striker Benjamin Sesko, with the Slovenian striker’s potential role explicitly connected to how Bayern intend to use Harry Kane as he moves through his mid-thirties.

Sesko, 23, impressed in the German Bundesliga during a spell with RB Leipzig where he scored 39 goals from 87 games, before he moved to Old Trafford in 2025.

The Slovenian striker finished his debut campaign with 12 goals across all competitions, cementing himself as Michael Carrick’s preferred option through the closing months of the season. Those performances have now caught the attention of one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Bundesliga champions are not planning an immediate move, but reports claim they expect to revive their interest after previously missing out on the striker in 2024.

At the time, Bayern viewed Sesko as the ideal forward to eventually complement Kane, but the asking price proved too high.

Manchester United capitalised on that situation a year later, completing a £72 million move to bring the former RB Leipzig striker to Old Trafford.

Sesko had already built an impressive reputation in Germany after representing Leipzig between 2023 and 2025, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards.

Bayern’s long-term thinking reportedly centres around Kane’s future role within the team.

The England captain, who celebrated his 33rd birthday this week and is regarded as one of the world’s best players as well as a leading Ballon d’Or contender, is expected to gradually operate deeper as his career progresses.

His passing range and playmaking ability are seen as qualities that could allow another striker to play ahead of him in the years to come.

That vision was first discussed internally when Vincent Kompany arrived at Bayern in 2024, with Sesko viewed as the ideal candidate to eventually fill that advanced role.

Bayern have this summer signed Ismael Saibari, who’s capable both as an attacking midfielder and as a striker. Reports suggest the club could use him to cover the role and see if it works, before potentially coming back to Sesko.

Despite Bayern’s admiration, Manchester United are unlikely to consider any approach. Sesko remains firmly in Carrick’s plans and is currently working his way back from the shin injury he aggravated towards the end of last season. The 23-year-old is expected to be fit before the Premier League opener and could even return during pre-season against Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United’s stance, regardless of what Bayern are planning, isn’t up for debate. Sources close to the club have stated there is no scenario in which Sesko would be sold, to anyone.

That position was reportedly already communicated after Barcelona and Atletico Madrid made contact with Sesko’s intermediaries to test whether a deal was feasible. The answer was no.

United’s broader striker situation has been a live concern for some time, which makes the club’s determination to keep Sesko all the more telling. He isn’t seen as a squad asset to be monetised, he’s central to whatever the club builds next.
