Samsung’s first wide-screen foldable phone officially went on sale on August 7, 2026. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now available and marks a shift in design for Samsung’s book-style foldables, trading height for width to make the phone easier to use with one hand.
The new model brings a flatter inner display, brighter screens, faster charging, and a promise of seven years of software updates. It runs Android 17 out of the box and is powered by Qualcomm’s latest “for Galaxy” chip.
Wider Design, Tougher Hinge And Brighter Displays
Unlike previous Folds, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses a wider form factor. It is shorter and wider than most book-style foldables, which Samsung says makes typing and multitasking more comfortable when the device is closed.
Build quality gets an upgrade too. The phone uses a sleek Advanced Armor Aluminum frame and is IP48-rated for dust and water resistance. The cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.
When folded, you get a 5.5-inch bezel-less cover display with 1,248 x 1,972 pixels. Unfold it and there’s a 7.6-inch inner display at 1,848 x 2,448 pixels. Both are LTPO OLED panels with 1Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate, HDR10+, and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits.
Samsung also improved the hinge. The new mechanism makes the inner display tougher and flatter, with reduced crease visibility. An anti-reflective coating cuts reflections and glare by up to 50% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. With stereo speakers and a wider 4:3 aspect ratio, Samsung is pitching the Z Fold 8 as a better device for video and reading.
Cameras, Performance And Battery
The camera setup is straightforward: a dual rear system and a 10MP selfie camera on both the cover and inner screens.
The rear cameras include a 50MP primary with F1.8 aperture, OIS and dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus. The second is a 50MP ultrawide with F1.9 aperture and quad-pixel phase-detection autofocus. The front cameras are 10MP F2.2 and do not have autofocus or OIS.
All cameras can record 4K 60fps video. The rear cameras also support up to 8K 30fps, plus HDR10+ and Super HDR video. A new software feature called My FanCam lets you track a person in an existing video and automatically crop it to your preferred aspect ratio.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. It’s paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Only the 1TB model gets 16GB of RAM.
Other specs include GNSS with BDS, Galileo, GPS and QZSS, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds up to 5Gbps.
Battery capacity is 4,800mAh. Charging gets a boost with 45W wired charging via Super Fast Charging 2.0, and 20W wireless charging with Qi2 Ready certification.
Software And Pricing
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 launches with Android 17 and One UI 9. Samsung is including Galaxy AI, Samsung DeX, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, Samsung TV Plus, and Secure Folder. New AI features for this generation include Call Brief, My FanCam, and enhanced Now Nudges designed to help you move between tasks faster.
Samsung is also committing to up to seven years of software updates for the Z Fold 8, matching its longest support window yet.
Pricing starts at $1,899 in the United States for the 12GB + 256GB model. The 12GB + 512GB costs $2,099, and the 16GB + 1TB model is $2,499.
In Europe, prices are €1,999 for 12GB + 256GB, €2,199 for 12GB + 512GB, and €2,599 for 16GB + 1TB.
The phone comes in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender. There’s also an online-exclusive Pistachio color sold only through Samsung’s marketplace.
