Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed he will announce his way forward January 2025, Following his impeachment as Kenya's Deputy.
Speaking during a Church Service on November 24, 2024, Gachagua weighed in on the Political future of the Mt. Kenya region. The Former DP, alleged that the region he defended during his tenure in government, is under threat from state influence.
"They are saying it does not matter whether the People from Mt. Kenya Region are Angry, they will pay them out, buy them with money come 2027" Gachagua Said.
The Former Dp, cautioned the state against undermining the region's influence, affirming that residents have shifted their allegiance.
"What was witnessed in Murang'a and Embu was just a tip of the iceberg." Gachagua emphasized, in reference to a Church Event in Embu last week when President William Ruto was booed by congregants while trying to explain the Social Health Authority And Affordable Housing Project.
The Murang'a example came after just yesterday, Moses Kuria, a government official was forced to cut short his speech and flee after mourners heckled him and also refused to listen to the current Deputy President Kindiki's Condolences message during the burial ceremony of Nominated Murang'a MCA Mark Wainaina.
Rigathi Gachagua, poked holes into President William Ruto's administration over the cancelation of the Adani deal, claiming it was quite concerning the government only cancelled the deals after Adani CEO was inducted for Graft in the United States, despite widespread exposure and Criticism of the Indian Firm's proposed deals in Kenya, shrouded in Mystery.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, November 21, Ruto ordered the cancellation of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) deal that was announced a few months ago and the Proposed Lease of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, JKIA.
As explained by the Head of State, the new orders were informed by new information regarding the integrity of the Indian company.
“I have stated in the past, and I reiterate today, that in the face of undisputed evidence or credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to take decisive action," he directed.
"Accordingly, I now direct - in furtherance of the principles enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution on transparency and accountability, and based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations - that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract, and immediately commence the process of onboarding alternative partners.” Ruto said.
The National Treasury had given the greenlight to Sh158 billion worth of power deals for KETRACO, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Adani Energy Solutions and Africa50.
Adani had also committed to a Ksh238 billion investment to upgrade and expand JKIA. However, critics, including KHRC argued that Kenya could raise the necessary funds independently without giving up control of this critical national asset.
Rigathi Gachagua, has also called on the residents of Mt Kenya Region to remain united and await his return. The Impeached Deputy President, has openly criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of betraying his trust and that of the Mt. Kenya people.
Gachagua expressed disappointment, stating that the betrayal has revealed Ruto’s true character. He added that moving forward, they will reevaluate how they interact with the president to protect their interests.
Rigathi, was impeached by the Country's National Assembly and Senate after a Legislator, Mwengi Mutuse, filed impeachment Proceedings against him in Parliament.
The Motion, Filed by Kibwezi West Mp Mwenge Mutuse, had received the support of 291 MPs, who had appended their Signature's for it's presentation.
Gachagua's impeachment motion, was introduced on Tuesday 1st October 2024 at the National Assembly, citing 11 grounds for the DP's removal, including gross violation of the Constitution, misconduct, and violations of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, as well as the Leadership and Integrity Act.
With a Majority of Members of Parliament Supporting his ouster, Gachagua moved to the Senator, hoping to overturn his impeachment.
However, the Senators Concurred with MPs and a Majority voted in Support of his Ouster, prompting him to move to the Court's and hopefully overturn the Senate's vote, which didn't work out.
