KENYA : Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki embarked on his first development tour of the Mt Kenya region in Kieni, Nyeri county, on Friday January 31, 2025.
Kindiki, inspected the ongoing works on upgrading to bitumen standard and performance based routine maintenance of Endarasha-Charity- Gakanga-Embaringo-Kimunyuru- Junction D447-Mweiga- Mairo roads.
He said the road has stalled since 2019 because of financial challenges.
“It has been 6 years without any construction work going on here. Today, I have come here with good news. President Ruto has stabilised the economy and now we have funds to revive this road and all the stalled roads in Nyeri County and across the country,” the DP stated.
He affirmed the state’s commitment to monitor closely the progress of construction of the roads, markets, electricity connection projects in the county to ensure faster completion for the people to benefit from them.
“The President and the government are focused on finding solutions to the problems our people are facing. We don't have any interest in political fights. Our focus is on expansion of our roads, water, electricity, creation of jobs.”
According to the Deputy President, the Government will connect more than one million customers to the national grid in the next 20 months in the last mile connectivity program underway across the 290 Constituencies.
He noted that this will raise the number of households connected to electricity from 2.5 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025.
" In Nyeri County, 10,903 beneficiaries have been connected and Ksh.733 million has been allocated for more connections this year. In Kieni Constituency, Ksh.164 million has been allocated to connect 1,163 households, including 101 homes in Aguthi Village." Said Kindiki.
" Launched the Aguthi Rural Electrification Project that will benefit residents, among them, Lydia Wairimu Karoki, a 73 year old mother of five and a senior citizen." he added.
Kindiki stated that the economy is now flourishing and it’s now time for development and bettering the lives of Kenyans.
Kindiki called out those politicking insisting this will disrupt service delivery and the people of Kenya will suffer.
“It is irresponsible for us to engage in politics now because doing that will make our people suffer and service delivery will be disrupted,” he said.
The DP went on to say that the Kenya Kwanza was fixated on finding solutions to the challenges facing the people of Kenya.
He insisted that currently they are not interested in any political fights.
Kindiki said they need time to construct roads, create jobs and ensure all Kenyans have access to water, electricity and healthcare.
