KENYAN President William Ruto has exuded Confidence that he will get re-elected to serve for a second Term, daring his critics and opponents to brace for stiff competition on the Ballot come 2027, even as he grapples with Widespread Public disapproval.
Speaking during his tour of Northern Kenya on February 5, 2025, Ruto called out his administration's critics, stating that they do not have what it takes to lead the country.
The head of State, made a Mockery of Leaders opposed to his government, pointing out that none of them has had a successful political career like his.
Mr. Ruto downplayed suggestions that he could serve for only one term, insisting he's not threatened by the critics.
The President, said he's focused on service delivery to the people while Fulfilling the Kenya-Kwanza Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), rather than engaging in premature political debates ahead of the 2027 elections.
"Sometimes you are being threatened about serving for one term, but that is not my concern. What would make the 2027 elections different from all the other elections? People should calm down; there are no elections this year or next year. They should calm down until 2027. For now, we are concerned with development, and I promise you, I will deliver," he said.
Ruto also hit out at leaders claiming that he won't serve more than one term, emphasizing that his long experience in public service equips him well for the presidency.
"I can't accept threats ahead of the 2027 elections. I want to ask, I have served as an MP for 15 years, deputy president for 10 years, and now as president. What can someone threaten me with? And the problem with those who are threatening me is that they have never been president, and they don't even know what it takes to be president," he added.
President Ruto dismissed claims that he has embarked on early, premature campaigns for the 2027 elections in the guise of uniting Kenyans.
This comes after Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka recently told Ruto that he should be aware that Kenya is more united than before to get rid of him in the next general election since he had displayed high levels of incompetence in running the country.
In a press conference at the Wiper Party headquarters after a National Executive Council meeting, Kalonzo said that Ruto should be aware by now that citizens are not happy with the unpopular policies that he has come up with.
" Ruto should desist from moving around the country carrying out early campaigns yet citizens entrusted him with a responsibility which he has now proven that it is beyond his capability. He should be ready to go home in 2027 for failing Kenyans,” said Kalonzo.
The Wiper Party Leader said that that Ruto’s close allies were boasting that they will change the constitution to rule beyond 2032 and warned that it was impossible in Kenya since he is not even guaranteed a second term.
Kalonzo said that the President cannot purport to unite the country which is already united in anger against the failure in health and education systems while the economy was dwindling yet the leadership in place was not ready to listen to the plight of citizens.
He said that when he takes over as President in 2027 his executive order number would be doing away with the housing levy which has raided the pockets of Kenyans yet citizens did not agree to the forced affordable housing project.
"We would like to caution Ruto’s allies from making warlike utterances, they need to be called out since the country cannot be led by fear and intimidation. They should be aware that they are dealing with enlightened citizens who will take them home in 2027,” said Kalonzo.
