Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General (SG) and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is celebrating seven years since being appointed to serve in the party’s most prestigious position.
Sifuna was appointed to the position on February 23, 2018, taking over from Ababu Namwamba, who had resigned in July 2016.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Sifuna stated it has been easy serving as ODM SG.
Sifuna has attributed his success at the Orange party to the blueprint left by the late Gerald Otieno Kajwang..
“Time does fly when you are having fun. It’s 7 years to the day today! It’s very easy to be SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang. Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC,” Sifuna stated.
Kajwang, who was elected to represent the Mbita Constituency in the National Assembly in the December 2007 parliamentary election and subsequently elected to represent Homa Bay County in the Senate during the 2013 elections, always advocated for loyalty, fidelity, and faithfulness to the ODM party.
Meanwhile, his remarks come just a day after Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa warned the ODM Secretary General that he could be kicked out of the position soon.
Speaking on Saturday, February 22, Aladwa said the Nairobi Senator’s days in the ODM party are numbered saying he would be ejected like his predecessor Ababu Namwamba.
"I want to warn Sifuna, the one calling himself the Secretary General of ODM. We've had many Secretary Generals before; he's not the first. Ababu left, and he will also leave. He should completely stay away from me. I see he has insulted me a lot, but I want to tell him that his days in ODM are numbered,” Aladwa stated.
The Makadara MP went on to claim that Sifuna is being used by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He also alleged that Senator Sifuna has joined Gacahgua’s faction and that he is being fronted for a gubernatorial seat.
“The same Sifuna is being used by Gachagua. Even during the impeachment, he caused trouble and voted reluctantly. We know that he is Gachagua’s candidate for the governor seat. Even last week but one, he was with Gachagua, Waititu, and Kalonzo in Kawangware.
“We wish him all the best, as we know he has already left ODM. He should stop deceiving people that he is still the Secretary-General, he has already joined Gachagua’s team,” Aladwa claimed.
The remarks came after Sifuna called out Aladwa and other leaders in ODM over supporting the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking on Thursday, February 20, Senator Sifuna maintained that he would not vote for President Ruto in the 2027 general election even if he is spurted by the ODM party.
"There are messages too important to be left to Aladwa. In ODM, everyone has the right to speak their mind. Aladwa has one vote, and Sifuna has one vote. Let him cast his vote for Ruto, I will not," said Sifuna.
