The Ministry of Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed confidence that Kenyans will eventually fondly remember President William Ruto, years after his tenure.
Murkomen believes Ruto will overcome the challenges his leadership is facing, and in the 'long run steer the country towards economic prosperity.
The interior cs, likened the issues confronting Ruto, to the challenges the late President Mwai Kibaki encountered during his first term in office.
Murkomen, pointed out that the late Kibaki, was forced to reappoint his Cabinet following a referendum just three years into his presidency. "It seemed as though Kibaki’s presidency was finished, and many people were reluctant to serve in his Cabinet at the time" he said.
“Kibaki needed people to stabilize the country. So, he needed a broad-based government. And he had to go to KANU, to pick people like the late John Koech, to come in to stabilize his administration,” he said during a memorial service for former Minister John Koech.
“What President Ruto did (broadbased-government) is not new. Kibaki did the same. The challenges president Ruto is facing are not new,” he added in reference to Ruto's recent 'power-sharing deal with ODM chief Raila Odinga.
He Exuded confidence in President William Ruto's ability to overcome the shortcomings, insisting that Ruto will secure a second term come 2027,
“In 2005, President Mwai Kibaki was the most unpopular person. Everybody was saying uchumi ni ya watu wachache. But Kibaki is the most celebrated President today. I am confident that the future of this country is in safe hands and success is ahead and President Ruto will be re-elected and celebrated like President Kibaki in future as the most transformative leader,” stated Murkomen.
This is not the first time Leaders affiliated to the Kenya-Kwanza administration have likened Ruto's administration to Kibaki's.
Earlier this year,, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki claimed that Ruto had outperformed Kibaki in just two years of leadership.
Kindiki praised Ruto’s administration for its swift implementation of development projects and effective governance, stating that Ruto’s achievements are “music to the ears” of Kenyans.
He highlighted key milestones in infrastructure, healthcare, and education as evidence of Ruto’s impactful leadership.
Last Month, Treasury CS John Mbadi expressed confidence that Kenyans will eventually praise President William Ruto’s economic policies.
Mbadi acknowledged current public dissatisfaction but stated that economic transformation takes time, citing similar initial criticism during Kibaki’s tenure.
He highlighted government measures like lowering the Central Bank Rate and Cash Reserve Ratio to increase liquidity and improve credit access.
Ruto's Tribute to Kibaki.
President Willam Ruto, during the send-off ceremony of the Late President in 2022, described Kibaki as the country’s greatest ever president.
Ruto, then serving as the deputy president under Uhuru Kenyatta, said that Kibaki’s legacy will forever be etched on the minds of Kenyans.
“A distinguished public servant that rose through the ranks, both in the opposition and the government and of course the greatest president Kenya ever had,” said Ruto.
“He laid a firm foundation both in education, and infrastructure development and was the architect of our economy." he added.
Kibaki's rich legacy, Ruto said then, has definitely been cemented and will take more than just mere paragraphs or even chapters to fully tell his story and capture his achievements that have no doubt shaped Kenya over the last half a century.
