Peter Salasya, the flamboyant Kenyan parliamentarian known for his social media antics and populist rhetoric, has exuded confidence that he will win the 2027 presidential election.
The Mumias East Member of Parliament, has expressed confidence that he would make an exceptional and unforgettable President of Kenya, claiming that his background and ability to relate with the common Mwananchi gives him an edge.
In a statement shared on his Social Media pages on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the outspoken legislator highlighted his unique qualities and strong commitment to serving the country.
Salasya, told off critics who are downplaying his influence, recounting his earlier journey and struggles in his bid to become a legislator.
" I won Mumias East Mp on basis of principles and I am winning presidency on the basis of Principles. Let them speak as i continue hitting the road harder" Salasya said.
Salasya has also dismissed claims that he is a project of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.
He said the claims are nothing but cheap propaganda manufactured by people who are terrified of the political wave he is building across the nation.
“I am not a UDA project. I am not funded by State House. I have never received a single cent from any government official,” Salasya remarked.
Salasya further assured that not a single cent from Mumias East NG-CDF kitty has been misused.
" Not even a shilling. Our projects are visible, trackable, and transformative. Ask the students, the schools, the hospitals, and the parents on the ground. We’re delivering, not looting,” he stated.
The lawmaker said he is supported by a network of patriotic Kenyans who want change, not cartels.
"What you’re witnessing isn’t money at work. It’s pure strategy, unmatched charisma, and massive goodwill from Kenyans who believe in the future I represent.” said Salasya.
The outspoken politician had earlier this year revealed that he conducted his campaigns in 2022 without any money and that social media played a vital role in propelling him to his current state.
“I did not have money; I used social media so much. I love social media it gave me a platform to be known by my people that I was aspiring to be an MP,” he said.
Salasya noted that despite his competitors being seasoned and well-oiled, this did not dampen his spirit of going for the seat explaining how he used to popularise himself using the social media pages.
“I used to blog for myself, I did not have anyone to do the social media work for me. I would give someone a phone to record me and if they are not your supporters they would end up deleting it or even not recording at all,” he said.
Salasya at the same time revealed that he dropped out of school while in class three only to continue.
He said growing up as a young village he did not see any need for education.
“I was never serious with life. I didn’t bother going to school, I was just a stubborn boy,” the MP said.
The presence of factories in the region, he pointed out, further contributed to these 'failures' noting he would go and work and get paid quick money that would sustain him in the village.
He would later resume studies at Std 4 after two years at home.
Born in January 1989, Salasya went to Shanderema Primary School and later joined Lubinu High School in Kakamega county in 2006.
He later joined Egerton University to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce course.
In 2014, he graduated and went back to Kakamega, where he landed his first job as a bicycle hawker helping a local venture sell bicycles.
He gave a first stab at politics during the 2017 poll but got 254 votes. In 2022, he vied for the MP seat again and he won.
Since he entered Parliament in 2022, he has been gaining attention for his unfiltered style and grassroots appeal, though critics question his readiness for the presidency now.
His candidacy joins a diverse list of contenders, including Senior Counsel Martha Karua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Former CJ David Maraga, Busia senator Okiyah Omtatah, Former Interior Cs Fred Matiang'i, Roots Party Leader Wajackoyah and other regional heavyweights, all declaring interest to contest against incumbent President William Ruto.
