Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has told off former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for perpetrating divisive and retrogressive rhetoric that is undermining the country's development and advancement.
Kindiki hit back at the Former Deputy after he demanded an apology from Mt Kenya musicians who visited the Deputy President at Karen.
Gachagua, issued a warning to the Musicians who visited Kindiki, while speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kihoya in Kangema Constituency, Murang’a County on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Gachagua, warned that if the musicians do not apologise, Kenyans should unfollow them and stop inviting them to clubs.
“We are very sad that some of our artistes have become traitors for the community. They were invited at Karen by Mr Moneybags and told to come and lie to you that SHA (Social Health Authority) is working. They were told to tell us that roads are being built and education is running smoothly… and they accepted. I sat down with elders and they told me to announce that the artistes should apologise,” Gachagua stated.
He, said the current DP was at the helm of the security docket when Gen Z protestors were killed by the police in 2024, hence his hands were filled with blood.
“If they do not apologise we should stop listening to their music. They should also not be invited to the entertainment joints where they go. If club owners call such a person, customers should shift to another place. Also, unfollow them on social media,” he added.
In response to Gachagua's sentiments, a visibly agitated Kindiki told the former DP to stop petty political gimmicks.
The Deputy President said it is not right for his predecessor to keep dragging Mt Kenya region into murky, pointless politics and lecturing everyone for not toeing his line.
"How can you lecture us? Who are you? You are lecturing everyone and everywhere. You must respect us because respect is earned and is two-way," DP said.
He spoke on Sunday during an Empowerment event for small-scale traders at Ndurarua Primary School grounds in Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County.
The Deputy President indicated that as a leader and current holder of the office, he was entitled to meeting everyone, including musicians and creatives from any part of the country.
"I only met 50, and I will organise another meeting of 500 because we are keen to assist them as they have been exploited by cartels for a long time," he stated.
Last Friday, the DP met leading musicians from Mt. Kenya at the Official Residence in Karen, for consultations, and to find ways to solve perennial issues, including low earnings and exploitation in the sector.
"The government will promote talents among Kenyans and safeguard those who are talented against the cartels out to exploit them. We will ensure that musicians get returns that are commensurate to their talent and effort," he indicated.
During the empowerment meeting, the DP enumerated the development initiatives the government is focusing on in the region and countywide in a bid to improve the lives of all Kenyans.
He said it is not the right time to engage in useless political exchanges but to serve Kenyans as they deserve development.
"Those who think we don't know how to politick just because we have chosen to work for Kenyans instead of politicking will be shocked. At the right time, we will hit the campaign trail really hard and speak to Kenyans.
After the stabilisation of the economy, the government has successfully focused on increasing earnings for farmers in the coffee, tea, dairy, miraa, and sugar sectors.
The government is also building hundreds of markets across the country in a bid to dignify the working environment for mama mboga and other grassroots traders.
"The over 400 modern markets that the government is building across the country will have cold rooms for storage of perishable farm produce.
This will curb the post harvest losses incurred by traders who, in turn, pass them on to farmers, thus lowering the returns to farmers," he declared.
