President William Ruto’s close ally and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has revealed that plans are in top gear to arrest former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over allegations of incitement and sponsoring political violence in the country.
In a recorded video posted on his social media account, Sudi said that Gachagua’s continued remarks bordering on tribal division and violence cannot go unpunished.
“After cracking down on the perpetrators of the demonstrations, the focus now shifts to Wamunyoro. You’re next in line for arrest,” Sudi said, referring to Gachagua.
The MP’s remarks came just hours after Gachagua continued with blistering attacks against President Ruto, accusing him of orchestrating a campaign of political persecution against the Mt Kenya region.
Today , Gachagua alleged that a group of hired goons had been assembled and were meeting in a Nyeri hotel under police protection, allegedly plotting to cause chaos during the Saba Saba protests.
“This is a deliberate scheme to intimidate and isolate the Mt Kenya region,” Gachagua claimed.
However, authorities remain guarded on the matter.
Earlier this week, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin downplayed reports of an imminent arrest, clarifying that while there were no active warrants or charges against Gachagua at the time, he remained under the radar.
“Mr. Gachagua is not above the law. If investigations link him to the recent unrest or incitement, we shall act accordingly,” Amin stated.
The escalating political standoff now deepens the rift within the Kenya Kwanza administration, with tensions rising between allies of the President and a growing rebellion within Mt Kenya leadership circles.
