Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a warning to opposition leaders pushing for early power grabs, urging them to wait for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Friday, July 11, Kindiki dismissed any notion of premature leadership transition, describing such efforts as reckless and undemocratic.
"Those who are bringing childish politics by trying to destabilize the country and telling us that there are shortcuts to gaining leadership should know that we are not willing to go through what some of our neighboring countries have experienced,” he warned.
Kindiki reiterated that the constitution provides a clear path to power, noting that no amount of political agitation will change that timeline.
"There is no shortcut; anyone who wants to become an MCA, MP, Governor, or President should wait for the 2027 elections. It is that election that will determine who becomes a leader. There is no shortcut," he added.
Kindiki dismissed the calls from the opposition as part of a larger scheme by power-hungry politicians to derail the country’s stability.
"And to those who are celebrating, they should know that we will not sit back and watch our country be thrown into chaos. President Ruto and this administration will not allow Kenya to descend into anarchy in the name of liberties and shortcuts by power-hungry politicians,” he further said.
Dp Kindiki also urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to begin preparations for the general elections.
While welcoming the dismissal of the court case challenging their appointment, the DP said the country needs a functional election agency to ascertain its democracy and people's choices at the ballot.
"The IEBC commissioners should now officially begin preparations for the 2027 elections. The court case had put us in a difficult situation," he said.
He stated that with the commission in place, Kenya now has no excuse for electoral delays and must gear up for the 2027 General Election.
"It is important to have a fully-fledged commission in place and ready to conduct all our elections. It is now in place, and it will help us underwrite our democracy," DP noted.
Kindiki also said the Kenya Kwanza administration is focused on developing the country as it gets ready for the coming polls.
"We are working hard to develop the country as we prepare for the 2027 elections. The work of preparing for the election is IEBC's, but for us, it is to work for Kenyans as we get ready for the elections," he said.
The Deputy President drummed-up support for the Kenya-Kwanza administration, urging the electorate to re-elect President Ruto, so that the government can complete what it started during it's first term.
"We are not just saying two terms for the sake of it. We are saying two terms to continue high production of food, register all Kenyans under SHA, two terms to increase electricity connection and build more markets."said Kindiki.
