The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released Gazette Notices detailing preparations for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.
The Commission outlined crucial details, including the list of nominated candidates, designated polling stations, tallying centres, and declarations of no contest in specific wards
The IEBC confirmed that all campaign activities for the by-elections will run from October 8 to November 24, with candidates expected to conclude their campaigns 48 hours before voting day.
During this period, political parties and independent candidates are required to observe the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure peaceful and credible elections.
“The Commission has officially published the requisite Gazette Notices in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections scheduled for November 27, 2025. These notices provide crucial details on: The list of Nominated Candidates. The Declaration of No Contest for Mitkei and Tembelio Wards. The designated Polling Stations. The specific Tallying Centres,” IEBC stated.
Adding; “All Candidates and participating Political Parties are required to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct throughout this period. The Commission remains resolute in its mandate to uphold and strengthen Kenya’s democracy.”
The Commission has warned against any acts of intimidation, bribery, or violence, emphasising that such behaviour will attract legal action.
According to the notices, Mitkei and Tembelio Wards will not hold competitive elections after the Commission declared them uncontested. This means that the nominated candidates in those areas will automatically assume office without going through the ballot process.
The IEBC has made the published Gazette Notices available to the public through its official website to enhance transparency.
The upcoming mini-polls are expected to draw attention from political observers and parties keen to test their grassroots influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
