Harrison Kombe wins Magarini parliamentary seat

Harrison Kombe wins Magarini parliamentary seat

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reclaimed the Magarini Constituency parliamentary seat, securing a decisive victory in Thursday’s by-election.

Harrison Kombe emerged victorious with 17,909 votes, comfortably outpacing Stanley Kenga of the Democratic Change Party (DCP), who received 8,907 votes.

The contest was largely a two-way battle, with Kombe backed by politicians aligned with the government, while Kenga drew support from the United Opposition.

Kombe previously lost the seat in 2024 when the Supreme Court upheld the nullification of his 2022 election following a petition by Kenga.

In that election, only 21 votes separated the two candidates, with Kombe initially winning 11,946 votes to Kenga’s 11,925.

In his victory speech, Kombe expressed gratitude to residents of Magarini for their support, promising to focus on development, education, health, and infrastructure projects.

He also called for unity, saying, “Everyone in Magarini has a role to play in driving the constituency’s progress.”

Kenga and DCP supporters responded graciously, congratulating Kombe and urging peaceful cooperation in moving the constituency forward.

The by-election recorded a voter turnout of about 45 per cent of registered voters.

Analysts noted this moderate participation was influenced by voter fatigue and logistical challenges in some wards.

Observers believe the result strengthens ODM’s hold in Kilifi County and signals continued grassroots support as the 2027 general elections approach.
