Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has intensified his criticism of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing him of mismanaging county resources and urging Trans Nzoia County Assembly members to initiate impeachment proceedings.
In a social media post on December 14, 2025, Cherargei stated: “This Governor has run down the entire development in Trans Nzoia county from poor development, wanton corruption and a tribal champion. He has nothing to show people of Trans Nzoia, that’s why he is looking for lame excuses, yet he is allocated devolved money. The people who oversight the President are the Parliament".
The vocal senator has urged the MCAs to act: “The best Christmas gift and New Year blessings are for the Trans Nzoia county MCAs to immediately start impeachment proceedings against this rogue Governor Natembeya to protect devolution and the people of Trans Nzoia and also allow him more free time to be a tribal chief. We SHALL confirm impeachment proceedings against him in the Senate in a landslide.”
Cherargei also referenced Natembeya’s previous role as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner during the Uhuru Kenyatta era, claiming his leadership then was marked by impunity.
“During the Uhuru era, he was the face of impunity, where he demeaned a whole community through reckless talk and the senseless Mau Forest evictions that violated human rights, and when he left as Rift Valley regional commissioner, the many cattle rustlings stopped,” he said.
The senator further criticised Natembeya for missing a recent intergovernmental meeting on devolution with other governors, describing it as a disregard for constitutional obligations.
“Last week, alongside Governors Orengo, Ayacko, and Wanga, he skipped without apology a constitutional meeting between national and county governments on how to strengthen devolution to benefit Kenyans,” Cherargei added.
The post follows Natembeya’s earlier criticism of President William Ruto and fellow governors over devolution, further escalating tensions between Cherargei, an ally of the national government, and Natembeya, who has opposed some government policies.
The feud between the Nandi Senator and Trans nzoia Governor has been a political wrestling match ongoing for months.
In April, Cherargei accused the governor of promoting tribal divisions and claimed such conduct disqualified him from public office.
“Governor Natembeya should be impeached for promoting ethnic tensions, underdevelopment, and alleged corruption. These are impeachable offences under the Constitution of Kenya 2010, as they violate Articles 10, 27, 73, 74, 75, and 174,” he previously stated.
A month later, Cherargei tore into Trans Nzoia MCAs, accusing them of normalising corruption and foregoing their oversight role by warmly receiving Natembeya at the Kisumu International Airport ahead of his tour of the region, labelling their actions as a "national embarrassment".
He further urged the MCAs to institute impeachment proceedings against Natembeya for his alleged misuse of county funds and failure to uphold good governance.
"The Trans Nzoia County MCAs are a national embarrassment. Instead of beginning impeachment proceedings against Governor Natembeya over poor development, corruption and poor governance, they are busy rolling out the red carpet for him," he said.
"As country we must choose either to use constitutional accountability mechanisms or normalise corruption."
