Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fronted a new face in the race to replace the late Emurua Dikirr MP, handing Vincent Kibet Rotich the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) ticket ahead of the May by-election.
During an endorsement ceremony, Gachagua presented Kibet as a candidate shaped by grassroots support and ready to step into leadership at a critical moment for the constituency.
“Let us give him his certificate. Go and support him,” Gachagua told party members.
The DCP leader described the 37-year-old former chief as a youthful and determined leader, expressing confidence that he carries the spirit and legacy of the late Johana Ng’eno.
“I have listened to him. He has the spirit of the late Ng’eno and the courage to lead,” he said.
Gachagua also used the moment to caution the candidate against political pressure, warning that attempts could be made to influence him through financial incentives.
“You will be offered money, even millions, but do not sell your community,” he said, adding that Kibet had pledged to remain firm.
The party leader framed the by-election as more than just a contest for a seat, saying it presents an opportunity for the constituency to chart a new political direction.
“I know the next MP of Emurua Dikirr is Vincent Kibet Rotich… this will be a tough contest, but you are not cowards,” he said, urging supporters to campaign actively.
Kibet’s endorsement comes as political camps begin to mobilise ahead of the May 14 vote, triggered by the death of MP Johana Ng’eno in a helicopter crash.
Gachagua also praised local elders for uniting leaders in the area, saying their support would strengthen the campaign and give the candidate a solid foundation on the ground.
