Ruto's UDA & Mudavadi's ANC Party Merge in Preparation for 2027 Polls

President William Ruto led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and the Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi have officially merged and named party officials.

UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, during a press briefing at State House Nairobi on Friday, January 17, announced that the party has incorporated ANC’s identity symbols, including its logo, imagery, and topography, into the new outfit.

“The UDA party and the Amani National Congress have today merged as one known as United Democratic Alliance party that is also going to change name in the branding,” said Mbarire

“The party has incorporated ANC’s identity symbols in the logo, imagery topography brand of the new merger party and shall undertake a myriad of other changes in the governance and operations of the new party.”

Mbarire stated that, as part of the merger, the ANC Secretariat will also come on board, to ensure a seamless integration of both parties.

“The following officials have been designated as the new officials of the new party effective immediately. Deputy Party leader will be Issa Timamy Vice Chairman Kelvin Lunani, Deputy SG Omboko Milemba. Further to that we are going to bring in ANC Secretariat members into the new formation,” Mbarire added.

She also mentioned that the UDA party shall undertake merger activities including harmonization of the core values, rebranding, membership recruitment drive among other post-merger activities.

Additionally, Mbarire said they have also formed a merger committee that will ensure that within 90 days all these activities will happen.

However, the positions of party leader, chairperson, and secretary general of UDA remain unchanged. This means that the party leader is still President William Ruto, chairperson is Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, and EALA MP Hussein Omar continues as the secretary general.

The ANC officially approved a merger with the UDA in August 2024, a decision made during a high-profile meeting held in Lamu County.
