Mp Amisi urges Kenyans to Support Former Chief Justice David Maraga for Presidency

The Kenyan Political scene is a buzz with activity, early online campaigns for various aspirants have hit a fever pitch with a section of leaders from the political divide fronting their preferred candidates.

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has thrown his weight behind former Chief Justice David Maraga for presidency come 2027.

MP Amisi, In a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, February 1, 2025, has urged Kenyans to get the former Chief Justice out of retirement, mobilize resources and campaign for him.

“If Kenyans are looking for a new start, get maraga out of retirement, mobilise resources and campaign for him. The rest are usual political dinosaurs or representatives/scions of bourgeois status quo. They will not sell against Ruto. It must be real and believable. Renaissance!” he wrote.

He went on to state that to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 polls, Kenyans have to back one candidate and not parade numerous candidates like the current speculation of interested candidates.

Several Candidates have already expressed interest in the Presidency, stating they have what it takes to 'rescue' the country from the mess that is the Kenya-Kwanza leadership.

Speaking during the launch of his party headquarters in Nairobi on Monday, January 27, Eugene Wamalwa stated that he had resolved to vie for the presidency in the coming elections after consultations with the party members.

"I took over this party on January 14, 2022. This party honoured me to be the flag bearer in the presidential race in 2027. In the last elections, this party did not field a presidential candidate and supported Raila Amollo Odinga," he announced.

"My party made a resolution that it was no longer tenable for us to continue being there. We start a new journey, to look for new friends and partners. Azimio died last year. It is dead as a dodo."

He added that the party was no longer part of Azimio following the decision by some ODM leaders to join the government.

On the other hand, he expressed that he was willing and ready to work with other leaders in readiness for the 2027 race.

The party leader also revealed that he was in talks with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i over a possible alliance.

Meanwhile, Matiang'i, who was represented by Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka, indicated that he would be working with the Kalonzo, Gachagua team ahead of the polls.

Already, the Jubilee Party announced that it had picked Matiang'i as the flagbearer in the next election.

On the other hand, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is also set to unveil a new political party in the coming days.

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni attributed the selection of former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i as the preferred 2027 presidential flag bearer to his track record and work ethic.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, January 27, Kioni expressed that the former CS was one of the top performers in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He noted that Matiang'i was instrumental in overseeing the government's operations when Uhuru fell out with President William Ruto.

Therefore, the SG noted that Matiang'i was the best candidate to solve the current challenges in government.

"When Uhuru was running the country and Ruto decided to go back to the rooftop to campaign, the person who was left deputizing Uhuru was Matiang'i," Kioni stated.

"He was the one chairing the cabinet subcommittees. I remember when I once went there with the leadership of Nyandarua. Whatever we wanted done, was done in that in that boardroom. That is the kind of person we want to come back and manage this country."

On the other hand, he expressed that there was no better candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the next polls.

"I would like for somebody to put another name on the table that is better than his," he remarked.

"Parties are also able to mobilise better when they have a presidential candidate."

In recent months, Matiangi has made public appearances in various parts of the country, as reports indicate that he hired an international firm to help with his State House bid.

The Candidates interested to unseat President William Ruto include Busia Senator and Activist Okiyah Omtatah, Former Interior Cs Fred Matiang'i, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Former Presidential Aspirant Wajackoyah, NARC Party Leader Martha Karua, DAP-Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, just to name a few.
