The Team to Liberate Kenya - Gachagua welcomes Matiang'i to his team

The Team to Liberate Kenya - Gachagua welcomes Matiang'i to his team

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i into his team, stating the country's liberation depends on it.

Gachagua, in an update on Tuesday, April 29, said the team that also comprises former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is committed to rescuing the country from the grasp of the Kenya-kwanza regime.

“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history," he said.

Also present at the meeting were key political figures including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Mukhisa Kituyi. Jubilee National Chairman Torome Saitoti was also present.

This meeting comes two weeks after Gachagua revealed that they will name their presidential candidate a few months before the 2027 polls.

Speaking in Machakos County on Tuesday, April 15, the he revealed December 2026 as the possible timeline to name the candidate who will challenge President William Ruto.

Gachagua added that talks were currently ongoing regarding the team to challenge Ruto in the next general elections.

He explained that the opposition team could not name their candidate in advance, expressing fears over a plot by the government to cause divisions among them

"They are trying to come up with ways to cause divisions, but we are not stupid. We cannot go against each other. Are we stupid? We shall remain silent until December 2026, when we will announce who the person is. If we talk right now, they will plot against us. We are patriotic, and we will put our selfish interests aside for the benefit of the people of this country," he stated.

Additionally, during the same meeting in Machakos, Gachagua hinted at a possible alliance with several leaders including Matiang’i.

He revealed that talks are underway to form a united political front aimed at charting a new path for the country.

“We have listened to Kenyans who have said we come together and form a government that would take the country forward. I’m doing that with Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya and Fred Matiang’i. I want to assure the people of Kenya that we have a formula to give you good leadership," he said.
