Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has exuded confidence that he will defeat President William Ruto at the ballot, as the 2027 General Elections Presidential race garners pace, two and half years to the polls.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Gachagua reassured Kenyans not to worry about the next General elections, stating that the opposition is ready to face-off the incumbent.
The Former DP, revealed that the opposition is working on a united front and will be supporting one candidate to vie for the top seat. He added that if chosen, he will give president William Ruto a 'Run for his Money'.
"I want to assure you, the next election will be fine. I am there, Kalonzo Musyoka is there, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang'i, Eugene Wamalwa, we are all there. We will all sit down and select one person, if I am the one who is chosen, I will give Ruto a run for his money" said Gachagua.
The Former Deputy President told off President Ruto over his remarks that the opposition is obsessed with his ouster and has no manifesto or agenda.
“Ruto must go” that is not our agenda, hiyo ni agenda ya Wakenya. Sisi what we are doing is aligning with what the Kenyans are saying. Wakenya wanasema ndio hii nchi iboreke lazima uondoke." Gachagua fired.
He urged young Kenyans, especially Gen Z to register as voters ahead of the general elections, insisting only they can rescue the country from the shackles of bad governance.
Gachagua, called for unity, national Cohesion and end of tribal divisions, noting that's the only way Kenyans can tackle the current challenges and rescue the country.
His remarks, come weeks after he revealed that they will name their presidential candidate a few months before the 2027 polls.
Speaking in Machakos County last month, the former DP revealed December 2026 as the possible timeline to name the candidate who will challenge President William Ruto.
Gachagua added that talks were currently ongoing regarding the team to challenge Ruto in the next general elections.
He explained that the opposition team could not name their candidate in advance, expressing fears over a plot by the government to cause divisions among them
"They are trying to come up with ways to cause divisions, but we are not stupid. We cannot go against each other. Are we stupid? We shall remain silent until December 2026, when we will announce who the person is. If we talk right now, they will plot against us. We are patriotic, and we will put our selfish interests aside for the benefit of the people of this country," he stated.
Additionally, during the same meeting in Machakos, Gachagua hinted at a possible alliance with several leaders including Matiang’i.
He revealed that talks are underway to form a united political front aimed at charting a new path for the country.
“We have listened to Kenyans who have said we come together and form a government that would take the country forward. I’m doing that with Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya and Fred Matiang’i. I want to assure the people of Kenya that we have a formula to give you good leadership," he said.
