Homabay town Member of Parliament (MP) George Kaluma has warned Embakasi East MP Babu Owino against ditching Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement on Thursday, September 4, Kaluma told Babu Owino to avoid joining Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's political group.

Kaluma pointed out that the opposition faction was a road to Babu’s political career, terming the group as hateful.

The legislator further warned his counterpart against relying on Kikuyus to vote for him as the governor of Nairobi come the 2027 general elections, urging him to find his way back to Raila Odinga’s camp.

"Babu, leaving Baba for Gachagua and his hateful group will be your shortest political walk to oblivion,” Kaluma stated. “Retrace your steps back to Baba and ODM. Kikuyus will never vote for you to be the Governor of Nairobi, NEVER!”

This comes after Babu Owino, during an interview at a local channel, hinted that his Kenya Moja faction could join forces with the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

"The bible says in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time and a season for everything. When that time comes, we will unite with the United Opposition," Babu said.

The Embakasi East MP added that the Kenya Moja faction needed to prepare and organize before entering any alliance.

"Right now, we still need to prepare ourselves and set up our base properly so that they can also see we are well organized," he said.

Babu further expressed his fear that Raila could easily back the current Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja, come 2027, citing their current relationship developments.

On September 2, reports revealed that Raila Odinga convened a closed meeting in Nairobi with ODM MPs and MCAs, in an effort to buy one more month for the Nairobi Boss to correct his leadership method amid impending impeachment attempts.

“Nairobi must not be held hostage by political brinkmanship. Leaders must rise above divisions and deliver for the people,” Raila had stated.
