Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, has restated his commitment to dismantling corruption, impunity, and mismanagement in Kenya’s governance system.
In a statement on Sunday, September 7, Gachagua emphasised that his push for reforms is unstoppable and will continue to focus on protecting Kenyans’ rights while instilling accountability at every level of leadership.
“Our resolve to get rid of wanton corruption, extrajudicial killings, mismanagement of resources, and disrespect for our system of governance remains undeterred,” Gachagua said.
He outlined his vision for a Kenya free from entrenched corruption and state-sponsored injustices.
Gachagua emphasised that dismantling these systemic barriers is essential to restoring public trust, fostering inclusive growth, and ensuring that every citizen can access justice and opportunity without fear or discrimination.
The former Deputy President made the remarks after holding a public consultation in Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County. He noted that Kenyans deserve a system of governance that works for them and delivers justice, fairness, and economic progress.
“We remain focused and uninterrupted in our efforts to bring in a new governance system, respect for the rule of law, and the betterment of the people of Kenya,” he added.
His choice of Kipipiri also highlighted his continued presence in grassroots forums, where he frequently seeks to rally communities behind his call for systemic reform.
The Nyandarua engagement brought together local leaders and residents, offering them an opportunity to interact directly with the former Deputy President.
Gachagua, who attended a church service in the county before the public consultation, framed the day’s activities as a reflection of his broader mission to restore dignity and justice in public life.
“Held a public consultation at Miharati Shopping Centre in Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County, after attending a church service in the County,” his statement concluded.
Former Deputy President’s words reinforce his public image as a leader determined to confront systemic failures in governance while promoting accountability and the rule of law. As Kenya grapples with challenges of corruption, insecurity, and resource mismanagement, Gachagua’s remarks signal his intention to remain vocal and active in advocating for change at both the grassroots and national levels.
Regarding the opposition politics, Gachagua also assured that opposition politicians had resolved to keep their unity under the United People’s opposition with the sole purpose of unseating President William Ruto’s regime.
“We have agreed as a united opposition, and we have committed to producing one candidate to fight against Ruto,” he stated.
Gachagua also used the opportunity to rally the team behind the opposition and the candidate they will settle on to battle it out against Ruto in the 2027 polls.
“If we agree it is Kalonzo, will you support him? If it is Karua, will you vote for her?” he posed the question. If they decide I’m the one to run, then I will give Ruto a run for his money,” he added.
