Ruto appoints John Cox Lorionokou Registrar of Political Parties

President William Ruto has named John Lorionokou as the new Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) in a wide-ranging set of government appointments aimed at strengthening leadership across electoral, diplomatic, and human rights institutions.

The appointments were published in a gazette notice dated Friday, October 3, 2025, which also included the designation of Agatha Wahome as his assistant.

Cox takes over from Ann Nderitu, who served as RPP since 2018 and has now been appointed as a Commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Before his new role, Cox spent more than 15 years as a Constituency Elections Coordinator at IEBC, beginning in 2010.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Maseno University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Governance and Ethics at Mt Kenya University, in addition to having completed senior management training at the Kenya School of Government.

Alongside the RPP appointment, President Ruto confirmed several ambassadorial and high commission postings.

Among those named are Anthony Muchiri, Florence Bore, Lucy Kiruthu, Henry Wambuma, Abdirashid Abdille, Joseph Masila, Edwin Afande, Jayne Jepkorir Toroitich, and Judy Kiaria Nkumiri.

In a key human rights appointment, Claris Awuor Ogangah has been named Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) for a six-year term, effective immediately.

She replaces Roseline Odede, who passed away in January 2025 after serving four years at the Commission. Prior to this role, Ogangah worked as Deputy Country Representative and Human Rights Specialist at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The appointments follow approvals by the National Assembly's Committee on Appointments.
