Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka is fortifying his administration against the backdrop of legislative hostility, announcing a sweeping sacking of the entire cabinet, just a day after a motion for his removal from office was filed. This is not merely an administrative adjustment but a calculated survival tactic.
Lusaka has moved to overhaul his administration, dismissing his entire cabinet alongside the County Secretary and County Attorney in a sudden and far-reaching decision.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Lusaka said the move was aimed at restoring efficiency and strengthening service delivery in the county.
“In the exercise of the constitutional mandate to ensure effective governance and service delivery, the Governor has undertaken a reorganisation of the County Executive,” the statement read.
“Accordingly… all Members of the County Executive Committee, the County Attorney, and the County Secretary have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.”
The governor described the decision as being in the public interest, signalling a reset within the county leadership, although no immediate replacements were announced.
“Further communication regarding interim arrangements and subsequent appointments will be made in due course, in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
County officials, however, assured residents that essential services would continue uninterrupted despite the sweeping changes.
The shake-up comes against the backdrop of rising political tension within the county assembly. A day earlier, the Assembly confirmed it had received impeachment motions targeting a yet-to-be-disclosed county official.
“The Office of the Clerk wishes to inform the public that impeachment motions have been received… and are currently undergoing procedural processing,” the Assembly said, noting the motions would be tabled once approved.
While it remains unclear who the impeachment bid targets, Lusaka’s decisive action appears to signal an attempt to regain control and steady the county government amid the unfolding developments.
